“Netherworld”

Hidden in a stratum of emotional existence lies Netherworld, a plain where one is lost in a crimson world of agonizing solitude.

A place where a soul rises from the vortices of darkness into the blaring light of life.

On November 1, 2021 a piece I created titled, “Netherworld”  was published in Peastsmoke online journal. The art compliments midwife Ann Montgomery’s nonfiction account of sexual crimes against women in The Republic of the Congo.

Favourite Art Supplies

Recently, I had the fine pleasure of sharing my three favourite art supplies on the Art Supply Posse Podcast.

I’ve done a fair amount of exploration with various mediums and continue to do so unapologetically.

Despite my affinity for stockpiling crafty appurtenances there are a few handy staples always on rotation in my studio.

If you are an artist, an art aficionado or just curious about art in general take a few minutes to listen in.

“Happy Hour”

Sketch by PT Russell

A politician and a voter celebrate their government’s recent change in administration.

The artwork is a Mixed Media sketch from a collection of drawings I did dubbed, “Night Scribbles.”

Happy Hour was sketched on 9×12 Canson Watercolor paper.

“Annabelle”

Art by PT Russell

The character of Annabelle was first created using only acrylic paints.

Annabelle-Mae Fox visits the Bahamas, the country of her birth after living abroad for over 20 years.

In this particualr piece, we find her at Taino Beach, Grand Bahama enjoying a moment of solitude.

In addition to acrylics, Mungyo and Sennelier oil pastels were also used in the painting.

“Sacrifice”

ART By PT Russell

Sacrifice serves as a visual devotional to women enduring, and who are survivors of intimate abuse. Specifically those subjected to the perfidious nature of cultural misogyny.

These beautiful women are unarmored gladiators, literally trapped in an arena with a ferocious lion.

The image was meant to depict strength in weakness and bravado during  a time of great vulnerability.

I wanted “Sacrifice,”  to bring awareness to defenceless women everywhere. Women confined to cages of solecism; discarded and subjected to emotional degradation.

Imprudent words are the invisible fusillade that infiltrate, decimating the mental fortitude of its victims.

A contentious episode could feel apocalyptic to anyone having to fight for the perpetuity of their dignity, and possibly even their life.

Bravery wears many faces, whether it is adrenaline induced or provoked from an innate fervor to simply exist.
